when i upgraded the SV's rear wheel from the OEM to the wider GSXR750 unit, the modification introduced a K7 GSXR750 rear wheel. the "problem" is that the new K7 rear wheel doesnt match my K5 GSXR750 front-wheel that came with the GSXR750 front-end retrofit (the K4-5 and K6-9 wheels are similar, but different - still 3 spoked, but starting with K6+ the spokes are thinner and flared at the rim -- much better looking IMO and i think the newer rim design is lighter and stiffer, too). with that in mind i sourced a proper matching K8 GSXR1000 front-wheel & brake-rotors, fitted up a sticky new bridgestone bt016 tyre, and balanced it out. but wait - there's more!
the brake-rotors on the newer K8 front wheel are larger (310mm vs 300mm), so i had to source +5mm caliper spacers to keep everything lined up. also, the K8 brake-rotor rivets are configured differently (10 vs 8 and different radius from hub center). so i had to fab up a new speedo-sensor bracket to line the sensor up w/ the new magnet locations *and* figure out how to evenly space 4 magnets on a brake rotor design that's based on 10 rivets. that 2nd part took some head-scratching, but i got it done. so a simple wheel swap turned out to be a 2-day project! |
