Omega "Speedmaster Split-Seconds" chronograph [ca. 2001]

  • Movement: automatic Omega 3600 (ETA 7750) chronograph with cam-and-lever switching, chronometer rated with additional rattrapante (aka doppelchronograph) complication.
  • Case: ref# 3540.50.00, stainless-steel, ~43mm Ø.
  • This Speedmaster design was created in the late 1990s in associate with Michael Schumacher (multiple Formula-1 auto racing world champion) when he joined Omega as an ambassador for the brand.
  • The rattrapante complication is normally associated with sporting events which require the ability to record split-times while not interrupting the overall accumulation of elapsed-time, such as motor-sports and athletics.
  • The Speedmaster Split-Seconds also features a dial constructed of carbon-fibre, a material often associated with high performance motor-sports. You can see the tell-tale carbon-weave in some of the images below.
  • Omega's vintage watch database notes that only 5,000 examples of this watch were produced in total from 1999 to 2001 -- quite low production numbers indeed, making this quite rare for a modern Omega!
