Campy 8spd on 9/10spd freehub
quote:
does such a conversion exist?
Easy.
Firstly, there's no such thing as a 10spd-only freehub - 9spd and 10spd freehubs are identical.
If you don't yet have the cassette, just buy a 9spd cassette with all loose sprocket (no rivetted sprocket carriers, e.g. Veloce or Mirage), remove the largest sprocket, replace the amber 9spd spacers with black 8spd spacers, install as normal, and ride.
If you've already got an 8spd cassette, there's an easier, although occasionally more problematic solution - just install the cassette as is on the 9/10spd freehub. 8spd cassettes actually fit just fine on 9/10spd freehub. The potential issue is that 9/10spd freehub bodies are made from aluminum (softer than steel) and the spline/freehub interface with 8spd cassettes is smaller (the spline teeth are shorter), which means that there is a greater chance of sprocket spline teeth notching the freehub body. The heavier the rider and the larger the sprocket the greater the tendency to notch, but I'm 160 lb. and us a 26 tooth large sprocket and have not had any meaningful notching on the 8spd cassettes I've used on 9/10spd freehubs.
